Good afternoon all,
well today has been another good writing day and has taken my word count to over 52,000! I've ended the last scene with something of a "BANG" which was difficult for me to write but necessary and I've said "farewell" to one of my characters...
“Kill your darlings, kill your darlings, even when it breaks your egocentric little scribbler’s heart, kill your darlings.”
― Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft
Hello all!
I'm really happy with the writing so far today. Another 1000 words written today has helped me to surpass the 50,000 word count!
My main characters are within yards of the antagonist and they don't know he's there...
Hope you're all having a good day and I hope to blog more later.
Once again, thanks for your constant support and interest and thanks to all the subscribers (both old and new) to my newsletter.
and the finish line is closer...

Good afternoon all!
well I have written just over 2,000 words today which now takes my running total to over 49,000 words!
It feels like I am on an express train with unstoppable momentum at the moment!
If my novel was taking the 8 point story arc route, then I would say that I am somewhere between point 4 and 5 at the moment:
The classic eight-point arc being:
One of my favourite “how to write” books is Nigel Watts’ Writing A Novel and Getting Published. I bought it ten years ago and it continues to be a useful source of information and inspiration to me.
Well I hope to blog more later.
Just a quick "thank you" to all the subscribers of my newsletter. I hope you enjoy reading it, as much as I enjoy putting it together for you.

Good afternoon all,
I hope your week has been OK and you are looking forward to a nice weekend, whatever you have got planned.
Well today I have written the opening scene to my book that has taken my imagination to Cairo of all places ! It nicely sets the scene for the rest of the book I think. It needs a tiny bit of work on it, but I wanted it to be short and to the point and use it as a page turner, rather than a boring prologue. It's just over 1000 words in length so far which now makes the novel length at just over 46,000 words to date.
Don't forget that edition #2 of the newsletter will be published on Sunday 31st August and sent to my subscribers.

Hello Ideal Readers!
I hope you are all well.
Well my imagination has taken me into the heart of London today. My antagonist has journeyed from Heathrow airport to a hotel in Vauxhall and his next moves on the chessboard of the novel are lining up very nicely indeed!
I thought I'd share a photo of my workspace so you know I am busy typing away and jotting down notes for plot ideas, etc.
My antagonist now has a sidekick and foil for his journey through the rest of the novel.
Hope to blog more later.
Have a nice day everyone!

Hello everyone!
I hope you are all having a nice day, wherever in the world you may be reading this (I know I have readers not only in the UK, but as far away as Thailand also!)
Well today has been interesting. I have been developing the storyline of one of my major characters. He is the antagonist in my novel. I sat down and have so far thrashed out 1200 words which will move his piece onto the chessboard and ready for action in the novel !
Having one of those days where it really is flowing for me today.
Hope to blog more later, but in the interim, please check out my newsletter
Once again, I really am appreciative and thankful for your interest and support.

Good day ideal readers :-)
Well after a healthy breakfast of pan-fried sardines and a few cups of green tea, I sat down to write. I've managed to make a start on the introduction of a character was who mentioned in passing at the start of the novel. I thought it important to get the story of the major characters done first, before the introduction of this character. It is an exciting time, as it will tie up some unanswered questions (hopefully) and also provide yet more impetus and flow to my fledgling novel.
41,000 + words in total now.
And the finish line is closer...
A slight departure from my usual ramblings.
I was watching the "Tonight" program on TV last night:
I was especially fascinated and interested in the section on the superfood pill to fight prostate cancer and thought I would see if there were any books or more information on the subject.
Well here they are:
The Anubis Gates (1983) is a time travel fantasy novel by Tim Powers. It won the 1983 Philip K. Dick Award and 1984 Science Fiction Chronicle Award.
Well where do I start. I remember first reading this in the early 1990's and like a few other people, I struggled somewhat with the first two chapters. I think if I re-read this now, I wouldn't struggle with being plunged in into the world of 1801 in the rule of the British empire in Egypt.
That said, I implore you to just bear with this initial back story (even if you are left wondering like me at the time "what the hell is going on here!") as it is the springboard on which you will use to dive in to the remainder of the novel and discover it's many jewels of treasure throughout.
It's just one book that you will not be able to put down and will no doubt read in one session. It's a roller-coaster of a tale, which just doesn't slow down to let you take even a short gasp of breath.
Inventive, humorous and thrilling.
I highly recommend it to you and to enter the world of Brendan Doyle and Horrabin the evil clown (yes really...)

Afternoon all,
I finally took the plunge and got myself onto Twitter:

So you can keep up to speed with my progress and thoughts on Facebook, Twitter and also via my main blogging site: http://nikmeasures.booklikes.com/
Today, I will be writing of course, but also I thought about an author who I greatly admire last night, Tim Powers. I first read his seminal novel,The Anubis Gates when I was 21/22 and was completely blown away. I read another of his books shortly after:On Stranger Tides
Name sound familiar? It should be: it was hugely influential on the "Monkey Island" computer games of the 1980's and 90's and oh yes a certain film starring Johnny Depp!
OK back to writing and once again:
thank you for your interest!
